Our home's color palette & introducing color into your home

You've probably heard a lot about color palettes in the last couple of years when it comes to interiors of homes. When everything was gray, black & white it was all sort of cohesive on it's own because it was only neutrals - hard to mess that up! Now people are starting to go bolder with the use of color in their homes, hooray! If you're unsure how to go from room to room with different colors, or if bringing a new color in will really translate with the other colors you've chosen, throwing a color palette together is a really simple way to see it all in one spot! The paint colors in our home are the most asked question we get so without further ado - here is our home's ~current~ color palette!

Where they are:

  1. Swiss Coffee BM - Living room walls, hallway, kitchen walls

  2. Natural Cream BM - Living room & hallway trim, Kitchen cabinets/backsplash

  3. Mountain Moss BM - Dining room

  4. Otelia Wallpaper Mural - Dining room

  5. Pigeon F+B - Study

  6. Nicolson Red BM - Bathroom

  7. Mystic Lake BM - Guest Room

I created our color palette in Canva! It's as simple as screenshotting the color from the painting company's website, uploading it to your page & toggling over it to see the color in the area you want it! (I shared a very janky little screen recording of me doing this) you get the gist.

Having something like this ready to go is helping me narrow down colors for our upcoming laundry room update! It keeps me from choosing something too similar but also from picking a color or wallpaper that isn't even my style. Seeing our color palette laid out has taught us something, we're not afraid of color over here but we definitely favor those mid-tones. Soft blues & greens, definitely a moody pop from time to time & dash of texture here & there. Our home's layout is not open concept (honestly, thank goodness for that) so when walking through & seeing all the niche & individually curated spaces, I still want it to feel seamless, easy on the eyes & even tell a story. Sharing my whole piece on why we went with the color Pigeon for the study, soon!

Finally, having your home's color palette handy when shopping will help you make more intentional decor purchases. When I'm choose a throw pillow, a rug, florals, a blanket etc...I actually refer to the other rooms in our home. COHESIVENESS woooo!!!! Austin was walking through our hallway recently & (not making this up) said "it's so fun seeing all the same pops of color that match the other rooms in the house! The rug in the study ties in with the bathroom & that burgundy throw pillow in the living room...so cool!" Okay, I added the so cool part...but it is so cool that it felt like it told one seamless story to him as he galivanted from the living room to the kitchen for a snack. A true experience while completing an ordinary task.

If you're ready to dive into the world of color head first or maybe even just dip a toe...start with one room - choose something you LOVE & incorporate a bit of it into the next room with a decor item. Next thing you know, you'll have established an entire color palette & each room in your home, while boasting it's own personality, will tell a beautiful, colorful story!

Thanks for being here, Carrie A
